Kunal has designed the looks for the male leads (Abhay Deol, Arunoday Singh and Cyrus Sahukar) for the movie AISHA (an adaptation of Jane Austen's 'Emma') by Anil Kapoor Films Company production. In the romantic film, AISHA, where Abhay Deol plays Arjun Barman (an investment banker), designer Kunal Rawal says that his brief was to style Abhay according to his profession. "Abhay is a clotheshorse. His character is the perfect dresser. Strait-laced yet fun and casual but his outfits are slightly slicker. He's every girl's dream. We have given Abhay suits in mixed subtle colors, suits without belts, vintage tie clips, vintage YSL belts from New York in contrasting colors. Arjun loves his brown belts and shoes."

Movie Review : Once upon a Time In mumbaai talks about an era which takes us back through the memory lane in to the abyss of the mafia world ruling Mumbai in the 80’s when Mumbai breathed terror all the time. According to media speculations the move centers on the lives of Dawood Ibrahim and Haji Mastan who were the order of the day at that time. The movie directors, spokesmen and disclaimer all claim that it has no inspiration from any person’s life and that the similarities are mere co incidences but the parallels are too distinct too ignore.

The quality of the movie lies that besides the powerful storyline of the rising of the prince and the falling of the reigning King, the music of the movie does the wonders for the audience. The compositions are just awe-binding.

Set in the era of 1970s the movie tracks the careers of two famous gangsters Sultan Mirza palyed by Ajay Devgan and his recipient in line Shoaib Khan a classic character played by Emraan Hashmi and then their conflicts, which ensues when Shoaib challenges his protector and claims to rule the underworld of Mumbai is simply marvelous.

Director Milan Luthria’s has worked extensively for the movie which is completely visible in performances of the lead gangster’s as well as Randeep hooda as the tale narrating police officer, the jewellery shop romantic scenes from Prachi’s and Emraan conflicts with Ajay.
Pritam’s music is already rising up the charts doing the trick for the movie. The on screening pair of Ajay and Kangana ( a 70’s actress) is replete with amazing chemistry. And added to this romance is the pair of Prachi and Emraan.

Milenge Milenge - Agar tum time par aaye to…

Kareena Kapoor plays Priya, an orphan who believes in tarot cards, destiny and all that jazz. During a visit to the tarot card reader (Kirron Kher) she comes to know the date when she'd meet her soul mate. Enter Immy (Shahid Kapoor),having all the qualities the tarot card reader said Priya's love wouldn't have…like lying, smoking, drinking alcohol etc. However, having chanced upon the gorgeous Priya's diary he tries to fake it out as her 'destined guy'.

However, as predicted his facade soon falls off and a miffed Priya leaves him saying if they're truly destined they will get back in touch. How? She asks Immy to write his name and number on a currency note. She writes her name and number in a book. If the note finds a way back to her, or the book to him, they are 'meant' to be in love. Sounds familiar? Yes, serendipity!

There are two things that go against Milenge Milenge in a very bad way.

One that it's not at all contemporary. Anything and everything about the film is outdated. Dialogues are ancient! It seems as if it was made for another era's college students who have now grown up and won't relate to it. They may go all nostalgic, maybe. And the movie has nothing that can make the present generation of youngsters to relate with. Heck, the leads don't even use cellphones!

The second thing that goes against the film is that the script and screenplay is not original. Okay, we're not against adaptations or remakes if it's done tastefully. But this film just makes you go 'why'?

The music doesn't help either.

As a consolation- there are some moments of genuine comedy. Like, when Shahid and his friends dress up as girls to go to the hostel. It may be cliched but it's a tried and tested way of eliciting laughter and it doesn't fail this time either.

Shahid Kapoor looks adorable. Young full of zest, peppy. He is all energy. Kareena Kapoor looks curvy…although it's a pity they haven't been brought out well by her several seasons old costumes. The chemistry between the two is not all sparks but dewy and delicate. Kind of sweet! Both have justified their characters within the limits of the scope given to them.

Satish Kaushik and Satish Shah are typically themselves. Aarti Chhabria at times looks like a tart. Delnaz Paul is convincing. Kirron Kher looks apt. Himani Shivpuri is good.

If you're a diehard fan of Shahid-Kareena then maybe, you'll like this film. Or else I suggest you'd rather wait for the DVD.

Sachin Tichkule (Akshay Kumar) is a struggling Road contractor and he is very desperate to be successful in a society that is tilted deeply towards the corrupt, the mean, the selfish and the law breakers

Even though Khatta Meetha is a remake of the 1989 film Vellanakalude, it is also based on the murder of PWD engineer Yogendra Pandey from Bihar who was killed by the road mafia in 2009.

However, Khatta Meetha is not as serious as the basis for the plotline. Akshay plays the role of Sachin Tichkule, a struggling road contractor who seems to have no luck in making it big in show business. In order to make it big you need money to bribe people with - which Sachin has none of! What makes matters worse is that the municipal commissioner that Sachin works for turns out to be his ex girlfriend, played by Trisha, who now hates him!

Throughout the movie it seems like Sachin simply has the worst luck ever. As Sachin swerves his way from one disaster to the next, the film reveals the extent of corruption and bribery in the system. Sachin displays how to work the system in order to get where he needs to be.

What Worked:
Akshay Kumar is and always will be a good actor. His on-screen chemistry with newbie Trisha Krishnan works just fine and there are a few funny scenes that actually hold up the movie.

What Didn't:
The makers of Khatta Meetha should have focused more on getting the story straight. Or getting a story at all. The topic of corruption has been dealt with many times and this movie just doesn't stand out in a crowd.

Slated or Rated:
Watching this movie is definitely more Khatta than Meetha; the jokes in this flick - that is supposed to be funny - mostly fall flat and the film certainly lacks a solid story. If you're going to make a satire, the jokes need to fall in place and not be all over the place amid chaotic screaming.

Lamhaa directed by Rahul Dholakia is a film about Kashmir. The film tries to touch upon many issues, from scheming politicians, to the appalling condition of the army men, to sex scandals, and what not thus ending up being convoluted. The film has been in the buzz from quite a long time.

The film opens with Indian Military Intelligence suspecting a plot to disrupt and paralyze Kashmir and an attempt to do a successful repeat of what was a failed attempt in 1989. That's breaking of the state of Kashmir away from India, hand in glove with Pakistan. A retired paramilitary commando Vikram (Sanjay Dutt) is sent to investigate and avert it.

In Kashmir, he goes undercover posing as press photographer Gul Jehangir. Haji (Anupam Kher) an influential separatist leader has had 17 attempts on his life so far in the last 18 years and Vikram through his sources concludes that last attempt on his life was an insider's job. He succeeds in gaining the trust of Haji's protege Aziza (Bipasha Basu) and convinces her that there is another attack planned on his life.

Atif (Kunal Kapoor) a former militant and love interest of Aziza who has had a fall out with Haji hopes to bring peace to the valley by participating in the upcoming state elections. But then as Vikram digs further he realizes the mess has only got deeper. Nothing is actually what it seems and there is hardly any one who can be trusted.

LAMHAA
First things first! Lamhaa has been filmed in Kashmir and you're awe-struck by its beauty, with DoP James Fowlds doing a splendid job in capturing the scenic locales on celluloid. The constant shaking of the camera also gives a real feel. Unfortunately, Lamhaa, though controversial in nature, merely touches the tip of the issue, instead of going all-out and narrating a story that offers reasons and perhaps, a solution to the crisis.

Performance wise, Sanjay Dutt is decent in the film but his character seems shallow. Bipasha Basu is pretty convincing in her de-glam avatar. Kunal Kapoor is good but falters while delivering his political speeches. Anupam Kher is impeccable.

On the whole, Apart from bringing some already prevailing issues of Kashmir to the big screen, Lamhaa doesn't offer much to rave about.

Bachchan seems to have stepped on his own foot. The Bollywood legend's decision to become the brand ambassador of Narendra Modi's Gujarat has drawn flak from different quarters.
And now danseuse and social activist Mallika Sarabhai has sent a letter ( full text on right) to Bachchan, asking him what prompted him to become the brand ambassador of a state which is reeling under poverty and has witnessed the killings of innocent Muslims.
In her letter, Sarabhai has reeled off statistics to show the state Gujarat is in today.
Sarabhai claimed that the state has a huge debt of close to Rs 1 lakh crore.
She also stated that over 75,000 small and medium businesses have shut shop while the state went into an overdrive to dole out subsidies to rich industrial houses.
Sarabhai's words found an echo in social activist Teesta Setalvad.
"Bachchan is not the brand ambassador of Gujarat. He is the brand ambassador for Modi who gave his film Paa tax concessions to the tune of Rs 8-10 crore," Setalvad said.
She claimed that Modi is trying to go in for an image makeover after the Supreme Court directed investigation agencies to question him for mass murder.
"That needs to be put on the forefront, not wiped under the carpet. It is good that Mallika has brought out these statistics about Gujarat. It is the ground reality," she said.

Viewed on the basis of the evaluation of Asperger Syndrome, Karan Johar has hit the nail on the head. He has handled Rizvan Khan (Shah Rukh Khan) with maturity. To top it, he has used the intelligence of Rizvan to home in on a very touchy topic and has succeeded. Islam is not about Jihad, it is about love and Rizvan in his own locked-in world unlocks the hate within from those around him. Many with Asperger Syndrome also get violent, but Rizvan freaks when he sees the colour yellow and cannot stand loud noise.

Shah Rukh Khan has done a complete study of this syndrome and has delivered a terrific performance from frame one. Kajol, I dare say, is the Queen of Bollywood. All this talk of this heroine being the No.1 or No 2 is just mumbo jumbo when you see this talent explode on screen. Just natural. Pure bliss. We need to see more of you on screen, Kajol.

Karan Johar is known for his tearjerkers and he sticks to his format this time, too. But he also addresses an important issue, one that is tearing the world apart.

His handling of scenes is very mature and real. The interaction between young Rizvan with his mother (Zarina Wahab) and his younger brother Zakir is poignant. Zarina's obsessive focus on Rizwan drives Zakir to the wall. The crack is easy to see; his hatred for his brother easy to accept. Rizvan, in one touching moment tells his brother that at least he is able to express his sadness through tears... as for him, it's a frustrating process all bottled within.

Wanting to live his mother's dreams to lead a normal life, Rizvan leaves for America to live with his brother and wife. There, he assists his brother in selling his beauty products and meets Mandira (Kajol), already married with a six-year-old son. Their romance, which leads to marriage, is very well captured. She is a Hindu. He a Muslim. She adopts his surname and then 9/11 happens which radically changes the way the world sees Muslims, especially Americans. Tragedy strikes this happy family and Rizvan is on a journey travelling across the US to meet the president to tell him, 'My name is Khan, and I'm not a terrorist.' It is this obsessive or repetitive routine, which is the central theme of the film. He does meet the President and manages to change the views of many along the way.

Karan and SRK have done what they had to for the viewers and peace at large; but in the real world, can love actually be given a chance? A beautiful movie with a beautiful message not to forget powerful performances from the jodi that stormed the screens13 years ago with DDLJ.

Jimmy Sheirgill is once again proving to be a powerhouse performer. Soniya Jehan and Tannay Cheddha as the young Rizvan are fabulous. Zarina Wahab captivates with her emotions for both her sons. Yuvaan Makaar as Kajol's son is a confident actor.

Go watch it. Karan has crafted a beautiful film, while SRK has authored a marketing strategy that will be hard for even Aamir Khan to beat!

Madhvan) set out on a mission to look for their friend Rancho.

Kareena Kapoor plays the role of Pia alongside Aamir Khan. This movie will make you laugh at the same time it will make u cry and think as well. Like Rajkumar Hirani’s other movies this one also has a message, this being about student pressures. The movie has a flashback from the past, and that is how the story of the movie is told; with the present and flashbacks. The story of the movie is about friendship, student life and how these 3 idiots go about it. The dialogues of the movie are very effective and thought provoking. Hope this 3 idiot movie review will help people decide if they actually want to watch this fun movie.

She may be quite dismissive about her sex appeal but the world, particularly her fans, feel otherwise. Yes, Bollywood stunner Katrina Kaif has been voted the sexiest Asian Female for this year as well.

The Kaif gal, presently riding high on the successes of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and De Dana Dan, topped the annual list of the world's 50 sexiest Asian women unveiled on Friday by Eastern Eye, a newspaper for Asians in Britain.

Sex and nudity in 'Fired'

A bare-backed female figure, with a slight curvature of her breast exposed to camera, holds a severed head of Rahul Bose in the poster of the upcoming horror movie Fired.

The film, starring Bose and British model Militza Radmilovic is learnt to have too much blood and gore with an added seasoning of sex and nudity. Militza has reportedly gone nude for a few scenes in the film and there is also a steamy sex scene (you’ll see it on the following pages) between the two.

Expectedly, the film, set to release in January 2010, got stuck with the Censor Board seeing red over too much of blood and nudity in its promos for TV.

Rahul Bose does not deny that there’s nudity in the film, but he says he’s against any type of censorship.

“I’m in favour of self censorship,” he says.

Meanwhile, the blood splattered posters of the film, with Militza’s amply exposed cleavage, are grabbing a lot of eyes nowadays.

Hotshot RJ (Himesh) gets divorced with his wife Pooja (Sonal) on her insistence because she feels they lacked compatibility. However, they continue to remain friends. This leaves him utterly confused in his daily life. He encounters Shanaya Dhingra (Shenaz) in a misunderstood situation and ends up insulting her. But more chance meetings later, they end up becoming good friends. Shanaya ends up being a ray of sunshine in Vivan’s dull personal life. But Shanaya and Vivan’s friendship leads to Pooja getting extremely jealous. Situation becomes more complicated for Vivan as Shanaya’s parents mistake him for being their daughter’s boyfriend. Then there is also a reality show on Vivan’s radio channel which has Shanaya posing as his lover. What all further complicated confusions it all leads forms the rest of this utterly confused film!

The thing that you keep realizing while watching Radio is that, more than its characters, it’s the makers who are more confused and complicated! Structuring the narrative in chapter format ala Tarantino doesn’t quiet work with this one. All those, ‘3 weeks later’, ‘few hours later’ make it unintentionally hilarious. There is however a decent attempt at trying to convey an identifiable situation of many an urban couple’s lives. But then again unwanted songs and situations that over stay their time limit, bungle it all up. Director Ishan Trivedi delivered a light hearted satirical comedy with his debut directorial venture 7 ½ Phere and was quiet entertaining. But alas, same can’t be said about Radio. The film attempts to be too cool in every department and ends up getting all messed up. The climax too is extra stretched and you actually lose interest as to who is going to end up with what! Then again Paresh Rawal’s character, doesn’t really evoke the expected laughter that it should.

Himesh tries and succeeds in putting up a better act than his last two acting ventures. Shenaz is very good. Sonal despite a good screen presence fails to impress but the fault lies with her confused characterization. Zakir Hussain playing Shenaz’s father has his funny moments. Rajesh Khattar as Himesh’s boss is nice.

Paresh Rawal in a special appearance is a let down.

The only one department which leaves you mighty impressed is Himesh’s music. Mann Ka Radio, Teri Meri Dosti Ka and Zindagi Jaise Ek Radio being the pick of the lot.

Rocket Singh the Salesman of the Year movie is about a guy called Harpreeet Singh Bedi (Ranbir Kapoor) who has just graduated but has passed with very less marks, which are quite embarassing. But such a low score does not stop Rocket Singh from dreaming big and his journey starts which is full of adventure, excitment and comedy.

Harpreet jumps into the sales line which he believes in a super cool areeer for all smart people who are not able to get into medical engineering or business fields. It has everything that he dreams off. A smooth dressing, selling ice to an Eskimo, dreams to an insomniac and also sellinng a life time mobile conenction to a dying man. Very soon his ideas clash with professionals and bosses he looked up to.

The story is all about those people who get boderline marks and have no option but to join the world of sales.

In real life too, Ranbir is half sikh as his maternal grandparents were Sikh.

Ranbir said that his maternal grandmother was very excited and thrilled as he was playing the role of a Sardar. He added that after doing Rocket Singh he has started respecting the Sardars more because of the sacrifices they have made and the discpline they have in their religion. Lastly he said that it is not easy to keep a beard and tie a turban in warm countries and really respects them as they have it for their religion and not for their comfort.

Ranbir Believes that Pocket mein Rocket will become every salesman's anthem.
Rocket Singh is indeed a Singh in King in the sales world.

The Movie Rocket Singh has also been selected to be screened at the 6th edition of the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF).

Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan is finally here. Here’s the Kurbaan movie review for Bollywood movie buffs. The movie is directed by Rensil D’Silva and shot overseas. Kurbaan proves to be a powerful movie of most Hindi movies released during 2009. The movie gives an insight on the psyche of a terrorist and a person who has spent the life of a helpless spectator.

Rensil has chosen the burning issue of terrorism for his debut film. Although the movie is being compared to Fanna (Amir Khan, Kajol) and NewYork (Neil Nitin Mukesh,John Abraham) but there is no similarity. Kurbaan is one of those movies that are not just meant to entertain but in fact they leave an enlightening impact on the spectators. Having said this movie deserves a double thumb up.

Avantika (Kareena Kapoor) is a University teacher in Delhi who has retuned from US to take care of her Dad who has recently suffered a heart attack. During this time she meets Ehsaan (Saif Ali Khan) another professor and hence their love story begins. Few months down the road Avantika gets a call from her University in Delhi calling her back to work. When she tells Ehsaan he agrees to go with her but wants to get married before they leave.

Soon after their marriage they move to NY to start a new life. They are invited for dinner by their Muslim neighbors one day and that’s when the real story begins. Kurbaan is a love story between Saif and Kareena and the story of Islamic terrorists. There are some intimate scenes between the love birds as much touted about on the media. The high point of the movie is its thirty five minute climax. To sum up the Kurbaan movie review I’ll just say its one for the watcher.

Raj Kumar Santoshi's latest offering is. Prem (Ranbir Kapoor) runs Happy Club along with his friends. Their motto is simple; keep everyone happy and help lovers in distress. As president of the club, Prem and his gang go to any length to make sure two lovers get married. Even if it means getting the one he loves Jennifer, (Katrina Kaif) married off to the one she loves.

There are enough comic situations to justify that this is a comedy but not enough substance to validate the overemphasis on love. In the end, it's more a masala flick than a comedy.

But thanks to Ranbir, this film becomes bearable and there are moments he has you in his grasp, either with his performance or simply by his sheer presence. Katrina Kaif looks pretty as usual and has done a good job.

Prem character is played by Ranbir who lives with his parents who is a 9th standard drop-out and he being the President of the Happy Club. The motto of the Happy Club is to make the peopel enjoy their life. Jenny character is played by 'Katrina' who is an orphan and her adopted parents force her to get married to a agonizing boy only because he is rich.

Jenny & Prem become friends as the days goes on and Prem falls in love with Jenny but hesitates to tell her. Does Jenny marry the boy who her adopted parents choose?

Salman rocks London Dreams

Hail, Salman! Hail! Age may have caught up with him and he may be a little over the hill to play a rock-star, but one cannot help loving his goofy, gross, and womanizing Manu. Playing a yokel from Punjab, Salman Khan does what a young Dharmendra would do today. His Manu in London Dreams is a Punjabi munda who sleeps around with women in his village, has a lot of creditors knocking on his door, plays in a wedding band, and goes behen ke takkei in every next dialogue. It’s a role that would have suited no other star better (except Akshay, perhaps). And Salman rocks, and puts life into ‘London Dreams’.

The movie, in itself, isn’t bad either. Spiced up with racy humour from start to end, it packs in fair enough laughs but not enough musical thrill that is to be expected from a film of this genre. The culprits are Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The trio fails to repeat their Rock On magik when they ought to have, in fact, bettered it. So when the concert songs are played in the film, the music doesn’t make your hair stand on end. The average tunes take the steam out of the plot because the band in the movie is supposed to be a crowd-puller that manages to get the Wembley Stadium packed to the rafters.

‘London Dreams’ tells the story of two friends Arjun (Ajay Devgan) and Manu (Salman Khan) from a Punjab village. True to his name, Arjun has been singularly devoted since childhood to just one aim in life - a musical concert at Wembley stadium. Manu, on the other hand, loves to have fun; he’s got talent but little ambition. He’s happy playing in a wedding band in his village and warding off a bunch of creditors with false promises. The friendship takes a new turn when Arjun takes Manu to London to be a part of his band London Dreams which includes two young blokes from Pakistan (played by Ranvijay Singh and Aditya Kapoor) and a sweet-smiling south Indian girl named Priya (Asin) who dances at the band’s concerts.

When Manu begins to emerge as the scene-stealer at the concerts and also wins the love of Priya, whom Arjun silently loves, the latter sees his dream crashing because of his dear friend and decides to ruin Manu’s musical career.

‘London Dreams’ could have done better without the overplayed drama in the second half. Ajay Devgn’s outburst at the Wembley Stadium in front of 90,000 people is overdramatized, and one can’t understand why Ranvijay would willingly conspire with Devgn against Salman. Asin’s character too isn’t properly fleshed out. Playing an Iyer girl from a conservative family, she does pretty little than dancing on stage or rebuffing the flirtatious Manu’s advances.

Aladin (the film) is no Genius as Amitabh Bachchan's character is, but the movie does transport you to fantasyland, as its genre promises. Right from Boman Irani's voice-over in the beginning, the film carries you to a place called Khwaish, where Sujoy Ghosh rubs his palms, has his actors in slick get-ups, and sets to match the mood. Its fantasyland all right when Aladin (Riteish Deshmukh) is bullied by his friends from childhood to rub a lamp in the hope of a genie appearing. ''Aladin, Aladin kahan hai tera genie,'' his friends harass him all through his growing-up years.

However, things change when Jasmine (Jacqueline Fernandez) walks into his class on his birthday. Kasim (Sahil Khan), the big bully organizes a birthday bash to impress Jasmine. He convinces Jasmine that Aladin likes lamps and they buy him one as his birthday gift. Once again, they force him to rub the lamp. He refuses, but on Jasmine's insistence, he does oblige. Out comes Genius the genie (Amitabh Bachchan). From then on, its all between Genie and Aladin. He has three wishes but he wastes them all on Jasmine! There's also a twist in the tale in the form of Ring Master (Sanjay Dutt) who plays the bad Genie who wants all powers for himself.

Jacqueline waltzes through her part with the grace of a gazelle. She has the looks and the talent to make a mark. Amitabh is in 'high energy' mode giving the formulaic image of a fat man who we have come to identify with a Genie, a novel twist. Whether he is dancing or fighting, he is still 'Ab Tak Bachchan'. The style and the charismatic power are there for all to see. Riteish is slowly but steadily making a mark of his own. Dutt injects the necessary evil ingredient.

The look and feel of the film given by Sabu Cyril is commendable and the music by Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani has you tapping your feet. Choreography is top class and costumes deserve a special mention.

An interview with Jacqueline Fernandez

In conversation with Jacqueline Fernandez, who is making her debut as an actor with ALADIN this Friday.
How would you describe your role in ALADIN?

I play the role of a very sweet and normal college girl called Jasmine in ALADIN. She is not a princess like in the fable. Jasmine is not some one who has a distinct personality. Jasmine possesses the qualities of a princess in a fairy tale, though she is not a princess in ALADIN. I did feel a little bit of pressure because people know who Jasmine is and I'd have to live up to the expectations. Luckily I had no comparisons. I had to set a standard for Jasmine. In that way it was a challenge for me.

Do you think it has been very easy for you to bag ALADIN?

To be honest, I have been extremely lucky. I think I have my own genie who has granted me my wishes. There are many talented young girls who find it very difficult to get a break in Bollywood. I am indeed because within just a month of my coming to Mumbai, I succeeded in getting my big break and now have my foot in the door

How did you bag ALADIN?

I did go for an audition for ALADIN. I should confess that it was my first and worst audition. In fact, I thought that it would be the last time that I will face the camera. I messed up my lines and giggled. The casting director asked me to talk about a happy and sad event in my life. I guess I sounded true when I narrated my sad moment, because I tried to be true to the character. I was told that I was on board the film the same evening.

How did you prepare for your part?

The brief that I got from director Sujoy Ghosh was that I should not try to get too much into my character but just be natural. I do not think I prepared for the role. I prepared for the scenes, read the script many times day and night and did the rehearsals.

Considering that you are a Sri Lankan national, how were you influenced by Bollywood?

It may sound cliched, but the fact is that right from the age of 7, I wanted to be an actress. I should confess that I have been influenced a lot by Bollywood, because I used to make it a point to watch all Bollywood films, in addition to International films, since Sri Lankan films were never shown in Bahrain. I grew up in Bahrain and moved to Panipitiya outside Colombo, where my parents stay.

How would you compare Bollywood with Hollywood?

I do not know how to compare Bollywood with Hollywood. All that I can say is that I chose to make my debut in Bollywood with a film like ALADIN. Bollywood stands on its own with its different way of sending out message to the public. In terms of emotions, acting is difficult. Bollywood is a little more emotional than Hollywood because the actors are blessed here to have the chance to let themselves loose and touch the hearts of the people.

How was the experience of sharing the screen with an actor like Amitabh Bachchan?

Just to be in the same frame with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan was more than what I could have asked for. Riteish told me that he had spent his entire life to be with Mr. Bachchan, whereas I was lucky to have had the opportunity to be with him in my very first film. Mr. Bachchan has been my source of inspiration from day one, because I learnt by being in his orbit. Mr. Bachchan is very polite and kind but probably opens up only when he knows a person better.

Are you scared that you may be slotted as a foreign actress?

I am scared but, I hope that I am not slotted because I want to be different. If you are just perceived as a foreigner, you tend to get limited chance because there will be the tendency to cast you as a NRI or a modern day woman. It is always a big challenge for an actor to essay different roles.

To what extent, are you game for exposure as an actress?

I think there is a very fine thin line between exposure and over exposure. You, as an actor have to judge what suits you. I have absolutely no problem at all as far as exposure is concerned, if it justifies the role. In that case, I would be ready to do what it takes to take the message to the audiences.

How did you find Sujoy Ghosh as a director?

Sujoy is wonderful. I love the relationship that he shares with his actors. I love his spirit and the positivity which he brings on the sets. What I like about him as a director is that he does not shouts and is very relaxed. His nature rubs off on his actors and brings life to the sets.

Do you think Katrina has set the trend of foreign actresses making it big in Bollywood?

Yes. Katrina has proved every one wrong by being an example of a hard working woman who is dedicated and passionate to her work. I do not think she is today what she is just because of Salman Khan. It will be unfair to attribute her success to Salman Khan. Why would a director invest millions of rupees for the sake of Salman Khan in Katrina? Kat brings in so much into the table.

What is your role in Jaane Kahan Se Aaye Ho Tum?

I play the role of an alien in JAANE KAHAN SE AAYE HO TUM. I come from Venus and crash land into Riteish's arms. It is a very sweet story. I play a girl who comes in search of true love. Since Riteish also has been in search of true love all his life in the film, together we set out on our crazy journey to find out love.

Have you found out your true love in life?

All that I can say is life is too spontaneous to be able to make a plan and hence I take life as it comes along.

Directed by the Cheeni Kum fame R. Balki, ‘Paa’ tells a story of a boy who is ageing fast. The film features Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Vidya Balan. Unlike real life, the film portrays Amitabh as Abhishek’s son. In the movie Big B suffers from Progeria, a rare congenital abnormal condition where a person ages rapidly. Paa explores the emotional father-son relationship with this ailment as the backdrop.

STORY

Auro (Amitabh Bachchan) is an intelligent, witty 13-year-old boy with an extremely rare genetic defect that causes accelerated ageing.

He suffers from a progeria like syndrome. Mentally he is 13, very normal, but physically he looks 5 times older. In spite of his condition, Auro is a very happy boy. He lives with his mother Vidya (Vidya Balan), who is gynaecologist.

Amol Arte (Abhishek Bachchan) is young politician who is progressive and full of ideas. He is out to prove to the world that ‘politics’ is not a bad word. He is a man with a mission. Auro is Amol’s son.

Wanted: A tighter script. Wanted: Better editing. Wanted: A smooth flow of scenes. What you get instead is a 'leave-your-brains-behind' fare replete with frenzied plots, typical of Bollywood films of an era gone by, which cared two hoots about script or screenplay.

But Salman Khan fans need not fear, WANTED is all about the Khan. Here he is on a killing spree. One after the other, bad guys get bumped off, either to a bullet or to his fist. Last week BAABARR, did the killing, this week it is Radhe (Salman Khan) who works for moneybhai (meaning, he kills for money). And he kills with passionate glee!

There's also Gani bhai, Golden and Datta Pawle who do the killing. They are hardcore underworld characters who feed the cops and bleed the city. A bad cop is thrown in for good measure in the form of Inspector Talpade (Mahesh Manjrekar). Talpade decides which girl he wants to size up and does so in public! Of course there is also Ayesha Takia. Poor girl, she doesn't know if she is coming or going. I mean there are no links to her scenes and no meaning to her dialogues either. From a call centre where she works, she is either going to meet Radhe or to her aerobic classes. She has a kid brother who takes the 8pm local (empty). It is not clear whether he is going home or coming home!

There are songs, which bamboozle you just like the bullets and it is only in the last 10 minutes that there is some semblance of sense. One performance that will ease the pain is that of Prakash Raj who plays the international Don Gani Bhai. This guy is superb. Manjrekar, too, as the bad cop, steals the show.

Blue movie there is three reason to watch
1. Underwater visuals : Sequences filmed underwater are a pure visual treat, something never witnessed in Bollywood before. Credit : Peter Zuccarini (Pirates of the Caribbean)
2. Fabulous Action : About 4 Bike sequences provide the necessary adrenaline rush, the sequence on the train is the best of the lot.

3. Lara Dutta : Not in the history of Bollywood has an actress managed to look so stunning in a Bikini. Lara Dutta, for two thirds of her role, is clad looking super-hot in a variety of two-piece bikini’s.
Several reasons
The quality of the acting is what you would put up in a school play. Akshay Kumar is always dressed like a bandmaster, Sanjay Dutt is left to find his left foot as he struggles to groove to the beat (where was the choreographer?) and Lara Dutta is busy changing into stylish two-piece suits (the skimpy ones) to get underwater. If she is not in her swimming attire, she is busy shaking her body like a girl lost in a pub. As for Zayed Khan, he gives one the feeling that he is hanging around with a bunch of his school buddies. Oh yes, somewhere along the way Katrina Kaif also shows up with Rahul Dev. There's also Kylie Minogue. Did she know what she was getting into? I'm sure, she too is feeling blue!

BLUE is a picnic in the Bahamas for the cast and crew. I guess director Anthony D'Souza told the cast, "Just get in front of the camera and do whatever you want." All four are very unconvincing and you can even see them squirm in some scenes. Sanjay Dutt, I'm sure, will be hiding his face in his hands if he ever watches this film in its complete state. Never has he ever been so bored in a role.

The first hour is a drag, the following is even worse. The first scene itself is an indication of what is in store. Dutt and Akshay play with a shark! No, in fact they are shooing it away from their net! However, you wait patiently because the promos have been convincing. They then get into the boxing ring. There is no respite. From here, it moves from one weird scene to another.

As for the story, go figure it out. I'm still trying to figure out what was in the bag that cost 50 million dollars. Worse, I can't for the life of me fathom why Zayed Khan did not look into the bag, the size of a lap top case, which Rahul Dev gave him to deliver to another person for a fee of 50,000 Dollars.

My advice would be to save the money for some Diwali shopping.

Over a dozen Punjabi Bhangra dancers flanked her as Rani Mukherjee walked the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival for the world premiere of her upcoming film Dil Bole Hadippa on Sunday.

Bollywood fans thronged the venue in hordes and packed up the Roy Thomson Hall in downtown Toronto to the rafters. On the carpet itself Rani was greeted by hundreds of fans who sought her autograph and asked to pose with her for photographs.

“I really love the audience in Toronto…I'm nervous, I'm excited and I'm extremely honoured to be here. I have a deep emotional connect with my fans. They have stood by me through my low phase. I owe a lot to them. I hope they enjoy Dil Bole Hadippa as much as we enjoyed making it,” Rani told a news agency.

The 31-year-old actress wore an eye-catching off-shoulder purple gown.

Before the screening of the film, Cameron Bailey, co-director, Toronto International Film Festival, told the audience: “We love the colour, the energy, the music and the spirit of Bollywood and ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’ captures all that to perfection.”

Rani was accompanied by the film’s director Anurag Singh. Her co-star Shahid Kapur, however, could not attend the premiere because he’s promoting the film in India ahead of its release this Friday.

Farah Khan has finally come out with her much awaited talk show, Tere Mere Beach Mein, which will feature her favorite celeb friends and will discuss a particular topic pertaining to the chosen guest and the audiences. For her opening show, Farah called on her childhood friend Salman Khan and his mother Salma Khan to discuss their relationship. Maa Da Laadla Salman had no qualms in admitting that he is in fact, a mama's boy. The actor opened up on how he is looking for similar qualities that his mother has in his girl. He went on to admit that he felt that the attachment to his mother were because of the many hassling situations he had seen and thus needed the comfort of his mother. Salma Khan went on to talk about Salman's childhood as a young and naughty boy and additionally added that he was extremely sacrificing.

There were moments of tears when Mrs. Khan remembered the time when she went to see Salman in jail. However, it was good ol' Sallu who lightened the moment and told his mom not to cry like "Rakhi Sawant." She also spoke about the hoard of fans that flock to the Khan residence over the weekend all hoping to get a glimpse of the superstar, which she refers to as"Salman Darshan." Some lighter moments included a segment where Salman had to choose from Reema Lagoo, Mallaika Sherawat, Kiran Bedi and Farah Khan as a substitute mom. He quickly and jokingly chose Sherawat and pleased the audiences. And to add more comedy to the already fun episode, a young seventeen-year-old fan came running dressed as a bride ready to marry Salman. The gracious actor presented her with his own watch from his charity "Being Human."

Ram Gopal Varma’s Agyaat, which thankfully turned out to be more of a suspenseful adventure thriller than a spook fest.

Ramu keeps his Phoonk formula aside and ventures into the jungle to whip out a film that cross-breeds the Hollywood hit ‘Predator’ and the low-budget ‘The Blair Witch Project’, with some obviously expected smattering of desi masala in the form of item numbers thrown in. So we have Nisha Kothari - now rechristened

Priyanka – dropping her clothes to do the jungle jig to add some titillation to the scares. Absolutely no complaints about that. But hey! The film just goes on moving in concentric circles after the first death. There seems to be no story here; just a series of averagely conceived killings.

A film crew of about a dozen goes into a dense jungle to shoot. When the camera breaks down, they decide to take a trip into the unknown wild. But the camping trip turns into a nightmare when their guide is mysteriously killed. So the crew - comprising of a semi-clad heroine (Priyanka Kothari), a leering hero (Gautam Rode), the quirky director (Howard Rosemeyer), a south Indian producer (Ishrat Ali) and assistant director (Telugu star Nitin) among others - is left stranded in the maze of the jungle with an Agyaat killer on their trail. Who, if anyone, will survive the killing fields?

Must say Ramu chose a very good location for the film. A dense jungle with only streams of light peeping in from above the treetops and all the strange noises of animals of the wild combine together to make an apt background for the film. If only the actors could live up to the ambience.

Priyanka Kothari mostly wears two expressions on her face - sensuous and scared. Nitin is perhaps the only actor who delivers a credible performance. The rest mostly end up hamming. But more annoying than performances is the background score (Amar Mohile) that gets blaring to the point of clearing your ear of all the darned wax.

The item song at the very start of the film isn’t much of a gem. ‘Agyaat’ doesn’t exactly keep you on the edge of your seat. Yes, there are a few scenes (mostly when the anticipation of what’s going to happen is building up) that give you goose flesh. But mostly, the so-called scary scenes end up making you smile rather than sending a shiver down your spine. So, it’s entertaining, at least.

‘Marriage’ is in reality the union of two souls that has to last for a lifetime. Though practically, there is far too much that goes into actually managing a ‘marriage’. This is what ‘Life Partner’ is in a nutshell.

The movie about three friends - Karan (Fardeen Khan) who considers ‘Love marriage is the perfect bet’, Bhavesh (Tusshar Kapoor) who disbelieves the concept of ‘Dating’ and prefers an arranged set up and the third person is Jeet (Govinda), who is a divorce lawyer who believes in ‘No marriage’.

The lives of Karan and Bhavesh turn upside down when they marry their respective partners, Sanjana (Genelia D’souza) and Prachi (Prachi Desai) and they re-affirm their faith in the institution of marriage. This is what the movie is all about.

Abbas Mustan duo has not left any stone unturned to give the movie a ostentatious look. But the promotion of the movie could have been better as there is no buzz around the movie. The locales of Cape Town are eye catching and Sameer Arya’s cinematography makes it look even better.

Writer-Director Rumi Jaffery who has already proved his competence in writing in the past has once again done a good job. But the screenplay (Yunus Sajawal) suffers on many counts as the film starts off well, dips intermittently, gathers momentum in the second half and drops again during pre-climax and climax.

Niranjan Iyengar’s dialogues are funny at most places and are good enough to tickle the funny bones of the audiences at most occasions. Pritam has done nothing great with his music. Javed Akhtar has also done a mediocre kind of work.

Despite the way the songs have been shot, there is not a single song that a person will feel like carrying home or even hum around. Watching Kuke Kuke number is fun because of Govinda and Genelia’s dramatics. Editing by Sanjay Sankla needs some serious trimming especially in the second half.

Fardeen Khan is now more comfortable with the camera and it shows. Tusshar suits in his part well and does full justice to it. Genelia looks cute. Prachi Desai is very likeable and has given an earnest performance.

Govinda once again has succeeded in evoking laughter. Anupam Kher is like always, ever dependable. Vikram Gokhale and Darshan Jariwala are sincere in their respective roles. Amrita Rao in a guest appearance as a bar girl fails to create any impact again with her miniscule clothing.

One last word - Life Partner can really be a good fun filling experience this weekend and can be watched along with your partner. For those who are still single, it teaches you the impact of having one in your life. So, be prepared

Shahrukh detained in US airport, released after questioning New York, Aug 15 (PTI) Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan had an unnerving experience early this morning at the Newark Airport in the US when he was detained and questioned for about two hours before the Indian mission intervened and secured his release.

43-year-old Khan was detained by the immigration officers, who wanted to know why he was visiting the US and other such questions, after his name popped up on the computer screen at the counter.

The actor, who was heading towards Chicago to participate in the Independence Day celebrations, said it was a "little embarrassing" for a self-respecting man like him."It is a Muslim name and I think the name is common on their checklist," he told Indian television channels over telephone.

In New Delhi, US Ambassador Timothy J Roemer described Khan as a "global icon", who is a welcome guest in the US.

Swine flu hits 'Kaminey'

The much anticipated film will have a delayed release in Mumbai

What was feared has come to pass. Swine flu scare is taking its toll on Bollywood’s new releases this week • KAMINEY and Life partner both of which were eyeing good business at theatres due to the long holiday weekend starting with Janamashtmi on Friday, followed by Independence Day on Saturday.

However, the Maharashtra government has ordered schools, colleges, theatres and multiplexes in Mumbai to close for three days to prevent the spread of swine flu, which means neither ‘Kaminey’ (starring priyanka chopra and shahid kapoor) nor ‘Life Partner’ (Fardeen Khan, Genelia D'Souza, Tushar Kapoor and Prachi Desai) would release in the city before Sunday, August 16.

This might affect the opening the two films could have got at the box office because both film were to release on about 100 screens in the city. According to a trade analyst, the industry might have to bear a loss from Rs 3 to 5 crores due to the delay in releases.

However, UTV, the producers of ‘Kaminey’, are not much worried because the film is riding high on the audience curiosity and there’s no big release to give it competition till September 18.

Vishal Bharadwaj’s film Kaminey tells the story of two twin brothers who hate and avoid each other like plague until life makes their paths cross.

The movie stars Shahid Kapur , Priyanka Chopra and Amole Gupte in lead roles.

Guddu and Charlie are brothers, born and raised in Dharavi, the world's largest slum in the heart of the megalopolis, Mumbai.

They also happen to be identical twins, in early twenties, hoping to leave the squalor behind and move into a life of prosperity and dignity. But the similarity ends here.

Guddu works as a trainee in a small NGO firm in the city. He hopes to climb up to the top of the corporate ladder. He wants to be a bona fide member of the burgeoning Indian middle class. His career has only just begun though and the road to bourgeoisie is both long and arduous. Yet Guddu is at it. He is honest

Charlie makes a living hedging bets at the race course. He moves around the plush hordes of the rich and famous at the races. For him this is just a way to make quick money and he dreams of becoming a legitimate bookie one day. Charlie is street smart, wily and brave. And only for himself. The brothers don't like each other. They believe they have nothing in common, not even their speech defect. While Guddu stammers, especially when he is nervous, Charlie has a lisp. The brothers have built their lives so that their paths don't ever cross. They believe it's only a question of time before they are out of each other's sight forever. All that is about to change. In one day. A day of reckoning. An unusual day, just right for the unusual events that unfold in its course.

Charlie is having a bad day at the office. He has practically bet everything he possesses on a coveted derby race. But at the last minute, he is double crossed as the race is fixed in their opponent's favour. He hunts down the jockey and plans to get even when the rival goons burst in. In the ensuing melee, Charlie and friends take off with a getaway car. Not knowing that the car belongs to a ruthless pair of cops, Lobo and Lele, who run drugs for the beach lord, Tashi. Soon enough, Charlie discovers a stash of coke in the boot of the car. All hell now breaks loose as the cops and the drug mafia get after his case. Charlie has to survive. And by his wits alone. Guddu is performing a street theatre act when his newfound girlfriend, Sweety Bhope appears on the scene, distraught and announces that she is pregnant.

Guddu is shocked at first but realizes quickly that there is no real problem. They can get married right away! They can't. There is a real problem. Sweety reveals her secret – her brother is Sunil 'chopper' Bhope, a gangster with political ambitions. A ridiculously dangerous man. And he already knows. Sweety informs Guddu that as they speak, her brother's men are out for his blood.The story unfolds as the day progresses. Intercut between the parallel stories of the brothers as they run to protect themselves, their dreams and their love. Until a point where it converges and the brothers meet to realize that they only have each other.

It is only through trust in each other that they can get out of the mess that they haven't created. They uncover a deadly political-police-underworld nexus. They discover virtues within themselves they thought didn't exist. And most important of all, they find each other.
